Register for he Brightly Shining Sun by Patrul Rinpoche

We are committed to making available authentic teachings and guidance on the Buddhist path to all who wish to study, contemplate and practice. We are therefore delighted that Lama Oser will be resident at Gomde Lindholme Hall again this year.
Lama Oser is an experienced and very senior monk at the the Ka Nying Shedrup Ling monastery in Nepal and, for a number of years, was the personal attendant of the great dzogchen master Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. He is therefore well qualified to assist us here at Gomde.

Ani Laura is a British nun and is the personal translator of H.H. Phakchok Rinpoche. With Rinpoche´s kind permission, Ani Laura has agreed to reside at Gomde and assist Lama Oser with his retreat/ teaching schedule.
We are delighted that this auspicious co-incidence has encouraged Lama Oser to teach more in-depth key texts during his stay at Gomde this year. Precious opportunities!

20-29th September. Lion’s Roar: Exposition of Buddha-Nature by Mipham Rinpoche
Course starts Thursday 20th in the evening evening and ends Sunday 29th in the afternoon.
It is possible to attend the first part of the course but not to join the teaching part way through.

When Buddha Shakyamuni realized enlightenment he saw that all beings without exception have the same nature and potential for enlightenment. This nature and potential, their given birthright, is known as buddha-nature and is the subject of a great number of Buddhist treatises, most importantly the Uttaratantra Shastra (Treatise on the Sublime Continuum). This is one of the Five Treatises of Maitreya and a commentary on the teachings of the third turning of the wheel of Dharma which explains buddha-nature.

The Lion’s Roar: Exposition of Buddha-Nature was composed by the great Rimé master Mipham Rinpoche as a synthesis of the Uttaratantra Shastra and is centered around the following verse:

Because the perfect buddhas’s kaya is all-pervading,
Because reality is undifferentiated,
And because they possess the potential,
Beings always have the buddha-nature.

The text explains and proves with simple, logical reasoning how we are all endowed with buddha-nature and what exactly buddha-nature is. Since it is buddha-nature that makes it possible for us to recognize enlightenment, it is vital that as seekers of enlightenment we have a grounded understanding of this.

The Brightly Shining Sun by Patrul Rinpoche  Long week end retreat. 18th -20th October
The Brightly Shining Sun is a step-by-step guide to meditating on the famous text, The Way of a Bodhisattva by Shantideva. This short text condenses all of the crucial points laid out in The Way of a Bodhisattva and lays out gradual stages for putting them into practice. Beginning with bodhichitta, the mind of enlightenment that is the core of the Great Vehicle, the text goes through each of the six paramitas explaining in straightforward, simple language how to implement them and allow them to transform our experience.

Patrul Rinpoche (1808-1887), the author of this text, was an enlightened master, who, though he lived the life of a vagabond, was one of the most illustrious and influential spiritual teachers of the nineteenth century. His principal teacher was Jikmé Gyalwé Nyugu, a great master who was one of the foremost students of Jikmé Lingpa.

Lama Oser will teach 2 sessions per day. 3 day long week end course begining the morning of Friday 18th and concluding in the afternoon of Sunday 20th.
