Events Schedule: Autumn 2010 Tulku Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche to visit for the opening and blessing of Gomde Hermitage, Scotland
We are delighted to announce that Rinpoche will be visiting the Gomde Woodland Hermitage at Hardmuir, which is near Inverness and Findhorn. Rinpoche will be blessing the land and giving teachings during his visit, with plenty of time, also, to enjoy the beauty of the local beaches, castles and moors. Rinpoche's programme will include: Monday 20th September, 7.30pm This is an open, public talk aimed at helping healthcare givers, carers and patients alike to find and develop the innate and natural resource of compassion within themselves. Click here to download more information Tuesday 21st - Wednesday 22nd September The Five Powers The 5 Powers are the basis for powerful and profound teachings from Rinpoche. He will continue the exploration of this classical teaching on The Five Powers (Resolve, Habituation, Sowing Virtuous Seeds, Revulsion and Aspiration), bringing them into context for practice in todays world and in all situations. Short Seminar based at Hardmuir Woodland Hermitage, Scotland. Non- residential. 2 teaching sessions a day and suggested donation £20 per session or £40 per day. Thursday 23rd September Blessing the Retreat Land A short ceremony and chance to practice together with Rinpoche on the day of the full moon, to create the auspicious circumstances for the land to become a place where we may all develop the qualities arising from meditation in peace and harmony. Suggested donation £30 for the day. Friday 24th September The programme in Scotland is quite likely to be small and informal. More details to be announced shortly. -Top- Getting to Gomde Hermitage, Scotland Gomde Scotland is located at Hardmuir of Boath, which lies between the small Scottish towns of Nairn and Forres. It is in the North East of Scotland on the Moray coast near to Findhorn. It is a secluded and hidden place, but very well connected to the outside world. Inverness airport is just 12 miles away and has a direct bus service to Hardmuir of Boath’s own bus stop. From the bus stop it is just 200 meters walk to the Hardmuir Woodland Hermitage. The Hardmuir of Boath bus stop is on the A96, linking Inverness and Aberdeen with busses that pass every 20 minutes in both directions. Great discount are available if you book early. You can also fly to Aberdeen from the nearby airport of Humberside but it is more expensive. By train, car or coach allow at least 7 to 8 hours. See below for further information. By Air There are four major Scottish airports: Inverness (12 miles) There is an hourly bus between Inverness airport and Nairn/Forres stopping directly at Hardmuir. Click here for the timetable Aberdeen (80 miles), The bus No. 10 will bring you direct to the Hardmuir bus stop (which is between Nairn and Forres) in about 2 1/2 hours. For coach connections from Aberdeen or Inverness to Nairn and Forres, call BlueBird Buses +44 (0)1224 212266, see their website or check at the coach station. Edinburgh (160 miles) and Glasgow (180 miles). The journey by car, train and bus from Glasgow and Edinburgh goes over the Scottish Highlands and is exceptionally beautiful. From the airport you can take the airport bus or a taxi to the train or coach station and proced from there or from Edinburgh Airport you can take the Mega Bus direct to Inverness and then on to Hardmuir. See www.megabus.com/uk By Train It’s a beautiful journey. Book tickets to Nairn or Forres, both are on the main line from London, changing at Inverness or Aberdeen. Early booking can mean great discounts! Rail Information: 08457 484 950. You can check train times and book online at www.thetrainline.com You can get a sleeper berth on the overnight train from London to Inverness. To book, go to sleeper and click on Bargain Berths. A taxi from the train stations of Nairn or Forres is 5 miles will cost about £15. By Bus or Coach You enjoy the same magnificent Highland scenery going by Coach. Mega Bus offer cheap and convenient coach travel to book on line see www.megabus.com/uk By car Most people don’t realise how big Scotland is and underestimate the distances to travel. Once you get to Scotland the driving is very nice on wide, relatively empty roads. However, if you are driving from south England it is wise to stay overnight somewhere in the Scottish borders. Travelling north via Edinburgh or Glasgow, join the A9 to Inverness at Perth. Leave the A9 just north of Aviemore turn right onto the A95 towards Grantown-on-Spey, then follow the back roads B9007/A939 to Auldearn driving over the highland moors on a lonely single track road with great views over the barren highlands to the green coastline of Moray. For further information please click here to download the How to get to Gomde Scotland information sheet -Top- Accommodation near to Gomde Hermitage, Scotland We regret that during Rinpoche's visit there is no accommodation available directly on the land, but there are lots of places to stay in the local area to suit all budgets. The closest small villages are Auldearn (2 miles), Dyke (3 miles), Brodie (3 miles) followed by the larger seaside town of Nairn (6 miles) and Forres (7 miles), Cawdor (7 miles) and Findhorn (11 miles). Any web search will give you lots of options for B&B, self catering, caravan sites, cottages and castles. There is also the very beautiful Shambala Buddhist retreat centre on the beach at Findhorn www.shambala-reteat.org Start looking on www.visitnairn.com or www.forresweb.net & www.cottageguide.co.uk The most economical accommodation will be to share self-catering. If you contact with your plans us we can try to pool resources and put people in touch with each other to arrange accommodation and lifts. If you would like to camp in the neighboring fields, it is essential you register as soon as possible and at least two weeks in advance and we will make provisions, if there is not enough demand there are campsites close by. There will be a small charge to camp to cover the hire charges for Portacabin facilities. Food There will be light refreshments available during the teachings at Gomde Hermitage and a local caterer can supply simple lunches at very reasonable rates . All other meals are off site and at your own convenience.
