We are introducing experiential holidays based on our main activities, Buddhism and Conservation. Especially designed for those who would like to explore these significant and important approaches to life. During the stay in our community, participants will gain a unique insight into Buddhism and conservation and learn how and why the two fit together.

Thanks to its unique location, in the centre of the Humberhead Peatlnds National Nature Resrve, Gomde Lindholme Hall, Buddhist Centre has become significantly involved in conservation and ecology. This includes managing the land through Higher Level Stewardship (HLS), leading the conservation of the last refugium on the Hatfield Moor through LOMM group, organic gardening and environmentally aware living.

Join the Buddhist community attend morning practice, share meals with the monastic and lay community attend specially prepared talks on key Buddhist ideas and have the opportunity to practise meditation in a supported setting.

Discover the character, history and significance of the land and the habitat. Understand why and how we manage the landscape and help out with key aspects of the conservation work.

Learn about fieldwork techniques by participating in species surveys, and explore connecting with the landscape in different ways by using art and our senses in a more focused manner

The 5 days will be lead by Lama Oser, our residnet monk and Andy Nelson our land manager

Lama Oser is Tibetan and has been an ordained monk since his youth. He is one of the most senior monks at Ka Nying Shedrup Ling our Monastery in Nepal. Lama Oser spends around 5 months of the year here as our resident teacher. Lama has a relaxed and friendly style. He has studied under many great Buddhist masters and was the personal attendant of the great Dzogchen yogi Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. See ‘Blazing Splendour- Memoirs of a Dzogchen Yogi’.

Andy Nelson is our land manager for the estate and is passionate about connecting people with nature. Andy has worked in the environmental sector since gaining a BSc in Environmental Sciences in 2007 and enjoys working outdoors whenever possible. He has taught many ecology courses for the Field Studies Council in the UK and has worked with scientists and students as a Research Camp Manager in both Indonesia and Croatia. Andy is not a Buddhist, but is interested in exploring themes common to Buddhism and nature conservation, such as impermanence and interconnectedness.

The Lindholme hall estate comprises 180 acres of grassland, heathland and woodland. The estate is secluded and remote with an ‘other world’ feel despite its proximity to a number of urban centres; it is an oasis of peace and tranquillity.

The estate is a sand moraine created by the last ice age, which lies in the centre of a lowland raised mire; we are surrounded by the Humberhead Peatlands NNR which is one of the largest ecological reclamation areas in Europe. On the island are geological sections showing the extent of the last ice age and to the north of the estate are the remains of a 4,500 year old neolithic wooden trackway recently designated an ancient monument.

Our accommodation is in elegant, clean and comfortable with rooms that sleep 2 or 3 people with shared bathrooms. We have facilities for those with different accessibility needs. All meals are vegetarian/ vegan and we are able to cater for some special diets on request.
